San Jose, CA (November 5, 2013) – O’Connor Hospital received an “A” rating for hospital safety by the Leapfrog Group, an independent national nonprofit run by employers and other large purchasers of health benefits, in its latest survey of hospitals throughout the U.S.
The grades used in the Leapfrog Hospital Safety Score program are derived from expert analysis of publicly available data using national evidence-based measure of patient safety. The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Score program grades hospitals on their overall performance in keeping patients safe from preventable harm and medical errors.
O’Connor Hospital received a higher Hospital Safety Score letter grade than the letter grades received by the majority of other local hospitals in the recent report.
“O’Connor prides itself on being one of the safest hospitals in Santa Clara County, and this “A” rating validates that we are meeting the highest standards for quality care,” said James F. Dover, FACHE, O’Connor Hospital President and CEO.
The Leapfrog Report is the latest in similar quality recognitions for O’Connor. In October, Blue Shield of California recognized O’Connor with a Blue Distinction Center® designation for delivering quality cardiac care, and earlier this year, O’Connor was recognized as a Blue Distinction Center+ for its knee replacement and hip replacement program. Additionally, O’Connor Hospital has been selected by Blue Shield of California to be a Preferred Center for CalPERS HMO plan members who need non-emergent knee or hip replacement surgery. To be designated by Blue Shield as a Preferred Center for Knee and Hip Replacement Surgery, a facility and surgeon must also provide high-quality care cost-effectively.
Also, O’Connor received the “2013 Get with the Guidelines – Stroke Gold Plus Performance Achievement Award” from the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association, recognizing O’Connor’s success in implementing a higher standard of stroke care. O’Connor also was a Bay Area Parent Family Favorite for 2013 for best birthing center and best hospital or medical center is an online survey.
