San Jose, CA – August 7, 2013 – The Urgent Care Center at O’Connor Hospital is now open. The Center, located at 455 O’Connor Drive, Suite 150, in San Jose, is operated by the DCHS Medical Foundation, member of Daughters of Charity Health System. The Center is located adjacent to O’Connor Hospital, also a member of Daughters of Charity Health System.
“We offer our communities a network of integrated care to provide more efficient and effective treatment,” says DCHS Medical Foundation CEO Ernie Wallerstein. “Urgent Care is a convenient alternative for accessible, quality medical treatment for conditions such as fever, sore throat, flu, sprains, simple fractures, among other conditions.”
Urgent Care Centers serve community members who need medical attention within 24 hours.
According to Dean Didech, MD, chief medical officer, DCHS Medical Foundation, choosing to go to the Emergency Department (ED) isn’t always the best choice for common ailments. “ED visits can be costly and often are not the most efficient option,” he reports. “The ED should be reserved for true emergencies such as injuries resulting from serious accidents, symptoms of heart attack or stroke, or any other life-threatening medical problems.”
To help community members determine whether to go to an Urgent Care Center as opposed to an ED, the DCHS Medical Foundation lists the following conditions that are treatable at urgent care locations: abscesses; abdominal pain; allergies; asthma; minor burns; colds; dehydration; diarrhea; ear pain; eye problems; headaches; infections; ingrown toenails; lacerations; nausea; nose bleeds; puncture wounds; rashes; and urinary problems.
The DCHS Medical Foundation, a statewide medical foundation established by Daughters of Charity Health System and headquartered in San Jose, CA, was formed in April 2012. Currently, the DCHS Medical Foundation is expanding its facilities to serve DCHS communities statewide in collaboration with local medical staffs at DCHS hospitals which span the California coast from the San Francisco Bay Area to Los Angeles.
The O’Connor Urgent Care Center is open 365 days a year from 12:00 pm to 8:00 pm. The San Jose Medical Group Urgent Care Center, located at 625 Lincoln Avenue, San Jose, is also open 365 days a year, 8:00 am to 8:00 pm.
